The Women's Health magazine website has posted an interview with Carla. I don't know if it's the same as from the mag, I will post the scans as soon as I get them to the photo section.

Sexy, Italian-Style

Racy lingerie, seriously great sex, and the occasional chocolate chip cookie: just a few of Carla Gugino's secrets for a lusty life. Pull out some paper--you'll want to take notes.

"Fellini said he loved zaftig women, because a woman who doesn't love food isn't good in bed. I think there's something to that," says Carla Gugino, who stars in the big-budget action flick Watchmen. It's a sunny afternoon, she's in a bustling New York trattoria, and she's true to her word. For brunch, she orders poached eggs over vegetables, espresso, and a slab of flourless chocolate cake, which she downs with a side of vitamins (more on those later). "I'm an Italian," she says, grinning. "And the Italian perspective is, love your curves."

Gugino's are certainly lovable. She's wearing a black dress that offers glimpses of her enviable cleavage; her legs, in black stockings and boots, are toned; and her dusky ivory skin looks like some kind of white chocolate dessert itself. She generates a vibe that is equal parts friendly and serene. She's in a good place, and she knows it.

"My favorite thing is to have a big dinner with friends and talk about life," she says. "They call me Mama Gugino, because if they're going to a city where I've worked, I can tell them every great restaurant and spa. I'm a sensualist. My two main indulgences are dark chocolate and massages."

Gugino, 37, loves to relax, but she's also serious about work. It all started at age 13, when she did some modeling and began to act. The straight-A student emancipated herself at 16, and then appeared in everything from the sitcom Spin City, in which she played Michael J. Fox's girlfriend, to the graphic-novel-inspired action movie Sin City, whose lingerie scenes were graphic indeed. And it bears noting that her character on Entourage, hottie agent Amanda, is the only woman who has ever flummoxed Jeremy Piven's Ari Gold.

But her career has never been hotter than now. Gugino has two new films: Race to Witch Mountain, a reworking of the kids' classic Escape to Witch Mountain, and Watchmen, (alongside our other cover girl, Malin Akerman), based on the hit graphic novel. Gugino plays costumed crime fighter Silk Spectre--and what a costume: a snug yellow and black dress with garters, stockings, and a single elbow-length glove.

And make no mistake: Gugino has the attitude to pull it off. "It was like, OK, let me embrace this," she says. "The time span between This Boy's Life [the 1993 drama in which she played Robert DeNiro's daughter] and Righteous Kill [the 2008 thriller in which she played DeNiro's lover] gave me a context for how different we are at 18 versus 37. Back then I didn't know who I was; I just wanted to please everybody and be loved. One of the first directions that [Boy's Life] director Michael Caton Jones gave me was, 'You'd better be fucking good.' I was like a deer in the headlights! Now I'm in my body in a different way.

"What I've realized," she says, "is that we're our own harshest critics. We give ourselves limitations. But I want to push through that wall, on a creative and personal level. I could get hit by a bus today. So I might as well love the people I love, do what I love to do, and take as many risks as possible."

Gugino lives mainly in Los Angeles [she has a place in NYC too], with her boyfriend of 12 years, screenwriter Sebastian Gutierrez (Snakes on a Plane), and his two teenage children, ages 14 and 15. Marriage "isn't important for us," Gugino says. "We like being boyfriend and girlfriend; there's something sexy and fun about that. We're very much about, 'There's nothing holding us here other than our desire to be together.'"

Gugino prefers to keep it playful: When she added a dressing room to her house, she included a space for a chair for Gutierrez to sit while she does "fashion shows for him before a premiere," she says. "I'll make him a cappuccino--I want him to be comfy--while I ask, 'Should I wear this or that?'" Flipping through the movie previews on an airplane recently, she was amused to see that "in all the American movies, something is blowing up, while in the European ones are people having sex. Here you can see a nipple blown off, but you can't see a woman walking to the bathroom after sex. It's weird, because to me, sexuality is a big part of who we are as humans, the way we connect.

"I've done a lot of roles that include that element," she continues. "[But] I've been taken seriously. I've worked a lot of jobs that have been all men but me, and that's been a positive thing. A guy who's a chauvinist, I'm not interested in. Any good man knows women are much smarter than men." She laughs. "Of course, we live in a world where things like this happen: A friend of mine went to her dermatologist to check on a mole, and the doctor said, 'Your face is very expressive. Let me know if you want me to do anything about that.' Isn't that hysterical--and awful?"

Gugino opts for beauty through health: sleep, exercise, eating right. Throughout brunch, she pops vitamins a few at a time. "My other nickname is Doctor Gugino," she says. "When my friends have a health concern, they call me. I've always been a vitamin taker. I also take digestive enzymes and antioxidants, and supplements that help with the thyroid and adrenals for my time-zone changes."

Speaking of time, Gugino has to run; she's got tickets to a play. But Mama Gugino has one last piece of advice: "Early on I thought I had to have the answers," she says. "Now I just want to ask questions, and find out where that will take me."

Mama Gugino? How sweet is that ;-)?? What a lovely interview :)
